Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy A series smartphones have become rather generic in terms of design lately. This trend seems likely to continue with the upcoming Galaxy A55, which renders reveal will look practically identical to last year’s Galaxy A54 model.
Renders posted this weekend by reputable leaker @OnLeaks and MySmartPrice showcase the Galaxy A55’s design. It sports a triple camera setup on the back, with each lens having its own protruding bump. The rear panel appears flat, as does the front glass, which has a centered hole-punch camera.
Upon first glance, the Galaxy A55 looks more or less indistinguishable from its predecessor. The only noticeable difference is the flatter, possibly more polished side rails on the new model. The Galaxy A54 had slightly curved side bezels with a matte coating.
Bizarrely, the Galaxy A55 has an unexplained protruding bump on the right side surrounding the power and volume buttons. This protrusion seems completely unnecessary and impacts the otherwise clean lines of the design.
Based on the leaked renders, the Galaxy A55 will measure 161.1 x 77.3 x 8.2mm, making it slightly larger overall than the Galaxy A54 (158.3 x 76.7 x 8.2mm). Again, the reason for this increase in size is unclear.
Samsung is rumored to launch the Galaxy A55 globally in early spring 2023, likely at a similar price point to the $450 Galaxy A54 released last April. Given the nearly identical design, consumers hoping for a dramatic update may end up disappointed. But those simply seeking a capable and affordable Android device will likely find the Galaxy A55 fits the bill.
