Itel has unveiled its latest smartphone, the Itel S23+, in Ethiopia. This is the company’s first premium phone with a curved AMOLED display.
The Itel S23+ features a 6.78-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with a 93% screen-to-body ratio. The curved display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Powering the phone is a 12nm Unisoc T616 chipset paired with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The phone also utilizes RAM expansion technology to virtually expand the RAM up to 8GB using the ROM.
For photography, the Itel S23+ has a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP main sensor. The front houses a 32MP selfie camera. The phone comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor for security. It packs a large 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support.
The Itel S23+ runs on Android 13 based ItelOS V13 out of the box. It will be available in a sole 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant in Ethiopia.
Itel is yet to reveal the pricing and availability details of the S23+ in the Ethiopian market. However, it is expected to be priced competitively to take on offerings from other brands.
With the launch of the Itel S23+, the company aims to strengthen its smartphone portfolio in the affordable premium segment. The phone comes with an attractive curved AMOLED display and powerful specs making it a strong contender in its price category.
Itel claims the S23+ has one of the slimmest designs among phones with 5000mAh batteries. The AMOLED display and high RAM capacity also give it an edge over competitors. The virtual RAM expansion feature further enhances the multitasking capabilities.
Earlier this year, Itel had launched the Itel S23 in India with similar specs but an LCD display. The S23+ can be seen as a more premium variant of that model. It improves on the screen and design while retaining the key hardware specs.
In conclusion, with features like an AMOLED display, ample RAM and fast charging support, the Itel S23+ has the potential to shake up the affordable premium smartphone segment in Africa. It offers a capable premium experience at an accessible price point for consumers. Itel will be hoping for the S23+ to succeed in price-sensitive markets like Ethiopia and boost its smartphone presence.
