Apple today unveiled its latest iPhone 15 series, featuring several notable upgrades over previous models. The highlights include the new Dynamic Island design, 48MP main camera, satellite connectivity for emergency SOS and roadside assistance, car crash detection, and more.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have a fresh look, with a new color-infused back glass in pink, yellow, green, blue, and black options. They also sport a redesigned pill-shaped cutout called the Dynamic Island, which expands to display alerts, notifications, and app activities.
For imaging, Apple has added a 48MP main camera and introduced the Quad-Pixel sensor for better low-light shots. Portrait mode is improved with more detail and bokeh effect for people, pets, and objects. Low-light photography sees boosts across all three cameras – main, ultra-wide, and selfie.
On the performance front, the latest A16 Bionic chip enables faster speeds and efficiency. Apple says it has a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU for smooth operation of the Dynamic Island, live activities, games, and more.
For connectivity, the iPhone 15 lineup brings support for satellite emergency SOS and a new roadside assistance feature in the US in partnership with AAA. Both capabilities allow users to get help when cellular coverage is unavailable.
The iPhones also come equipped with new safety capabilities like crash detection, which can automatically contact emergency services if it detects a severe car crash.
Other improvements include faster 5G with expanded network support, better FaceTime audio with voice isolation, eSIM support, and switching to USB-C from Lightning.
The iPhone 15 starts at $799, while the 15 Plus is priced from $899. Both models can be pre-ordered starting September 15 and will be available from September 22. They run iOS 17 out of the box.
