If you want to help someone who’s sick or injured, or return a lost iPhone or Apple Watch, you can find their Medical ID. This shows important information like their name, age, blood type, medical conditions, and medications. Here’s how to find it, if it’s been set up.
How to Find the Medical ID on an iPhone
You can see the Medical ID on an iPhone in different ways, whether it’s yours or someone else’s:
- Press the Side or Top button five times, and then slide across on the Medical ID option. This may activate Emergency SOS mode, depending on settings.
- Alternatively, press and hold the Side or Top button with either Volume button, and then slide across on the Medical ID option.
- Swipe up (or press the Home button if available) from the Lock Screen to see the passcode entry screen, then tap Emergency > Medical ID in the bottom-left corner.
- If the iPhone is unlocked, open the Health app, tap the profile icon in the top-right corner, and select Medical ID.
If you can’t find the Medical ID option, it means the person hasn’t set it up or doesn’t want to share it from the Lock Screen.
Note
To call emergency services, follow the same steps as before and swipe on the Emergency Call option instead. This will connect you to the emergency services in your area. After the call, the iPhone will send a message to all emergency contacts listed on the Medical ID. This is just one of many emergency features on the iPhone.
How to Find the Medical ID on an Apple Watch
To see someone’s Medical ID on their Apple Watch, hold down the Side button, and then slide across on the Medical ID option.
To connect to emergency services, swipe the Emergency Call button. This will call emergency services in your region. If you’re not using a cellular Apple Watch, your device should be near a paired iPhone to complete this action. After contacting emergency services, the Apple Watch will inform emergency contacts and display the Medical ID.
Don’t forget to create your own Medical ID.
Knowing how to locate the Medical ID on Apple devices could be crucial in an emergency situation and may assist in reuniting a lost device with its owner in less dire circumstances. However, the effectiveness of Apple’s Medical ID relies on people taking the time to set it up on their devices. Therefore, it is important to remember to create your own Medical ID on your device.
